If no secondary allowed:
All Paragons or All Ritualists (both with proven track record)
if secondaries are allowed
Paragons + Ritualists team (ultimate damage with weapon spells and healing) omg..I want to do this.

Any profession can have a full group and clear nearly anything, but if I had to choose, depending on what you meant *only considering primary profession, or 1 profession skills* I would go with:
No Secondary: Paragon
With Secondary: Necromancer or Assassin

Tough call. I would say paragons would be the most effective, but necromancers or rangers would be more fun. As it has been said necromancers can SS, MM, etc. Rangers can be the most versatile, though. Traps for back-row protection and healing, broadhead interrupters for shut down, barragers for AoE, beast masters for tanks and more damage, and they can even spike.

Depends....
Which area?
Pve or PvP?
Secondaries allowed?
All in all I think you could pick any profession and make it work. **cough** Ursan **cough**
Ursan aside, let's say no Cross class skills allowed and no secondary skills allowed. (Ok, we'll let Rez sig in) and this a PvE group. I still think any profession could work in areas like FOW. All you need is a group of talented creative players that can think outside the box and get the job done.
For example: 8 Ele's in the fow.
Player 1 is the Earth ele Obby Tank.
Players 2-5 are nukers
Player 6: Water snare
Player 7: Air knockdowns and interrupts
Player 8: Utility. I don't care what's on his bar except he's always wayyy in the back in case of disaster and he's always high tailing it outta there when things go bad. (He also has an unlimited supply of that consumable that rezzes everyone in the area when used)
